The heightened drive of Coast Guard Bataan against illegal fishing in the province in barely two weeks resulted in the apprehension of 39 illegal fishers.
Coast Guard Bataan Task Force on Illegal Fishing and Bantay Dagat Limay started conducting joint maritime patrol on municipal sea waters of Limay and nearby areas on November 29. Coast Guard Bataan Deputy Commander and Head of Task Force Virgil Duad said they caught the poachers red-handed using banned fishing gears, dynamite fishing, cyanide fishing, and other violations in the municipal sea waters. He said the apprehended illegal fishers were turned over to Limay local government for proper disposition.
Coast Guard Bataan Station Commander Jonathan Serote pointed out that the PCG is mandated to conduct maritime law enforcement and implement laws on fisheries. Noting the success of the drive in just a short time, other local government units in the province have started coordinating with Coast Guard Bataan for the conduct of maritime patrol in their respective sea waters.
